Let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.
1 John 3.18

The Companions of our Lord is a group of The Church of the Ascension acting out the command of Jesus Christ to love one another by supporting people in need through prayer and action.

Beloved God,
whose Son enjoyed the love of his companions,
in prayer, work and hospitality:
may we so rejoice in your love
that the world may come to know the depths of your wisdom and love,
the wonder of your compassion and joy,
and your power to bring life out of death;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

What we do
  • Visit and befriend people
  • Pray for each other and those we visit and support
  • Fundraising to support people in need
  • Decide on the charities to support

Give alms from your possessions,
and do not let your eye begrudge the gift when you make it.
Do not turn your face away from anyone who is poor,
and the face of God will not be turned away from you.
If you have many possessions, make your gift from them in proportion;
if few, do not be afraid to give according to the little you have.
